It’s often difficult to sort through the numerous employment policies that are in place in California. One national law firm, Seyfarth Shaw LLC, calls them “Cal-Pecularities”.

- Discussion about what is missing from the list
- Ideas for incorporating your company nuances into your policy
Our guest speaker is William H. Truesdell, SPHR. Mr.Truesdellis President of The Management Advantage, Inc., a personnel management consulting firm located inWalnut Creek,California. Prior to beginning this business in 1987,Mr.Truesdellspent over twenty years in management with American Telephone & Telegraph. More than half of that time was in human resources and the balance in operations. He has managed both union represented and non-represented work groups.
He is an expert in the subjects of personnel practices, employee handbooks, equal opportunity, and performance management programs and as an experienced instructor, course developer, and training manager, is the author of many training programs on basic and advanced management skills, career management and crisis management planning. He is also the author of five books, including, Secrets of Affirmative Action Compliance, Easy Employee Supervision, Before Diversity, and Secrets of Investigating Discrimination Complaints.
Mr. Truesdell holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Business Administration from the California State University, Fresno. He has been an Extension Instructor at the University of California, Berkeley, is past president of the Northern California Employment Round Table, has served on the National Workplace Diversity Committee in the Society for Human Resource Management, is past Chair of the Contra Costa County Employer Advisory Council and currently serves as Chair of the Contra Costa County EEO Advisory Council. He is certified as a Senior Professional in Human Resources (SPHR) by the Human Resources Certification Institute and is a member of the SHRM/ANSIDiversity Metrics Standards Development task force.
